In the recent years with the growing need for internet connectivity and the developments in the technologies enabling us to connect to the internet have rapidly evolved.
As time passes by we now witness faster broadband speeds becoming a basic need of an average consumer. This is also a result of the nature of the data download requirements which have now become more and more resource intensive. Imagine a few years back when there were no video and music streaming websites there was no real need for an average user to have required such fast download speeds.
So what exactly is Broadband
In simple words a standard telephone wire which is used in a normal house hold to make phone calls only transmitting a specific band of frequencies has now been made capable through software technology to transmit a wide or a broader range of data hence coining the term “Broadband”.
What are Modems?
Modems are devices used to connect a computer to internet services via telephone lines or cable modems.
What are Cable Modems?
These days a majority of service providers make use of the cable modem to connect to the internet using the Cable TV infrastructure. So now you can surf the internet without interrupting your Cable TV and Phone service
What’s DSL Broadband?
As discussed above the cable modems in use these days use DSL ( Digital Subscriber Line) which enables the Modem to transmit high-speed data over telephone wires without interrupting your telephone service.
What’s an ISP?
The term ISP stand for (Internet Service Provider) which can be used for any organisation that provide or sells internet connectivity services to its customers. The size and nature of an ISP can vary from B2B (business to business) or B2C (business to consumers) depending on the level the ISP sells it’s services.
What’s Mobile Broadband?
These days a lot of mobile companies have started to offer internet connectivity through the use of mobile data transmission. In simple words the internet is provided to subscribers without the use of wires but using a wireless modem which is attached to a computer or a laptop to receive “Mobile Internet Service”. These days you can even buy laptops with built in “Wireless Modem” feature.
What’s LAN?
LAN is a term used for (Local Area Network) which basically is a network of computers connected though cable connections.
What’s WIFI internet?
Just the way a normal LAN network is created using cables, WIFI network is created using wireless devices. The access to wireless network can or can not be restricted by the administrator using software security.
